Dog Crates and Cages
Once thought to be inhumane, dog crates are now a very popular tool for training and house breaking your dog. Dogs love them because they can have their own personal space where they can be alone and nobody will bother them. Whether your dog wants to take a nap or just enjoy chewing on his favorite bone in peace, the crate is his personal area where they can do pretty much anything they want. Make your dog's crate nice and cozy so it is not a punishment to be in there. Once he learns the routine he will know to be calm and relaxed when you put him in the crate so that he will sleep in peace and not roam around the house causing trouble, barking at everything they hear and biting everything they see.
There are different types of dog crates available. Different types of crates fit different dogs and different living situations. If you have a puppy you may want to get a larger crate that will hold your pup once he is full grown. Many crates have dividers so you can make his living area smaller until he grows larger. This keeps his crate small and cozy, and causes your dog to not want to go potty inside the crate. If the crate is large enough to potty on one side and sleep on the other without being disturbed, your dog will do so. The trick is to make it just small enough so he doesn't go potty in it but large enough to be comfortable. |
